Waller Creek traverses several of Austin’s most notable districts and has a variety of compelling conditions and experiences, yet today its accessible points are in disrepair and buildings turn their backs. A new tunnel to regulate flooding provides a significant amount of new developable area and the opportunity to redesign this incredible resource. Regeneration and Curation is a site-based, systematic design that could not live anywhere but Austin. The proposed Waller Creek District provides new play areas and night gardens, business incubator spaces and homes for cultural and community institutions, iconic structures, a swimming hole, canopy walk, immersive gardens, art installations, and large-scale event venues.
